Seven years ago I spent my final year in the Army posted to Anglesea Barracks in Hobart Tasmania. It was a great posting and we were able to walk to everything through the beautiful streets of Hobart. It is a relaxed place, no one is in a hurry and they are very friendly. Port Arthur is worth the visit when you take the scenic boat trip. Mount Wellington near Hobart has snow through most of the year due to its height. Enjoy fresh seafood on the docks, try the local wines and get a feel for the place. I would have retired there if we did not have a house down here in Rosebud.
If you go to port arthur, go early as it takes the whole day to explore the full site. we hired the head sets instead of going on the supervised tour. It was far better as we could go at our own pace and stop for morning tea when it suited us.
